Lightening Force
This game should've been called Thunder Force IV. It is the best Thunder Force game on the Genesis. It is also a "traditional" shooter in the sense that its setting is completely futuristic. Its techno music gets your adrenaline flowing. The stages are beautiful and very well designed. Don't spend too much time looking at them, though, because if you blink, you die.
